Received his Bachelor’s (1980), Master’s (1982) and PhD (1991) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM). He spent two years doing postdoctoral studies at Brigham Young University. He also has spent three years on academic leave at University of Texas at Arlington, working with Jonathan A. Campbell and Eric N. Smith. He is the founder of the herpetological program at Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM, and has advised many students in biodiversity, systematics and biogeography. Teaches Biogeography, Systematics, and Herpetology. He has published about several topics including history of Biology, Conservation, Systematics and Biogeography. He was nominated for the UNAM Award for young scientists in Natural History Teaching (1992) and he is “Honorary Foreign Member” by the ASIH (2008).
